Working Out

I took a long break from the Bar Method and tonight was my first time back. For those who are not familiar with the Bar Method, it is an exercise class that combines ballet, yoga and weight training by using minimal weights through dumb bells and focusing on using your own body weight instead. It is a challenging class. I would say that the most challenging part is the use of the ballet bar for balance while repeatedly doing various types of squats on your tippie toes. I really need to get back into the routine of this class because even though it's torture during the hour of the actual class, I feel so good afterwards.

Though I'm trying to get back into the swing of the whole exercise thing, the healthy food part is even more challenging. Isn't it horrible how organic and/or healthier foods are much more expensive than junk food or fast food? Not to mention that fast food is more convenient to buy. Well, I fell into the trap of purchasing 2 extra large pizzas at safeway for 5 dollars each over the weekend. I have one sitting in my fridge as we speak. After Bar Method, I ate japanese food at a restaurant instead of the pizza slices waiting for me at home. I'm pretty sure I made the healthier choice but how can you really tell.

Well, I'm not going to go overboard with all this but I am making a conscious effort to get fit for 2010 much like many Americans. We'll see how it goes!

On a Friday night

After a few good hours of studying, I decided to spend a night out on the town instead of kicking back on the couch watching television. My night started out at Dos Amigos where it was 2 buck corona night. For the three of us, we only spent 13 dollars on beers, tacos, chips and salsa. Very good deal. Down the street, Project One was playing some house music and we headed over there after finishing up dinner. The vibe was very cool inside with a down to earth bar staff and a diverse crowd simply having a good time. The venue is half gallery half dance club, with a bar that serves mostly beer and wine. Everyone seemed to enjoy the artsy photo booth at the place too. My energy was really winding down at this point. The night before I had just gotten back from an east coast flight that landed in SFO past midnight, so 3am EST. Even though I felt tired, I enjoy being out and about in the city. We decided to grab dessert at Bob's donuts. This place serves the best donuts hands down. They are almost always serving a fresh batch when I'm there usually between 10pm and 1am. There was a moroccan cafe next door that we decided to sit at. Comfy place, but not so great coffee. While we were here, we still made a couple of trips back to Bob's to get even more donuts. There seems to be a lot of different restaurants to try in that area, but I rarely think to go. I'll make a mental note for next time when I'm wondering where to eat for dinner. It was a nice Friday night, and I'm ready to get some rest for tomorrow!

Co-Ed night at Kabuki Spa

For 22 bucks on a Tuesday night, you can go here to take a shower sitting down or standing up, lounge in the sauna, get hot in the steam room and sit in the cold pool and/or the hot pool. I was surprised that the clientele were mostly late 20's/into their 30's and fit. Going into it, I had pictures of older asian men and women in my mind since it is in Japantown and a Japanese-themed facility. Oh and probably the most important thing, clothing is required on this night differing from all other nights where it is either women only or men only and clothing optional. I personally would prefer clothed men and women instead of naked women. The only odd thing that happened to me here was that during my stay I got a pimple. I could literally feel it popping out of my face. I'm not sure if it was something in the water or what. With that being said, it wouldn't stop me from going again and I have heard rave reviews about their massages and facials here so maybe next time I'll go for a combo.

The Station Agent

What a poignant little movie! I loved the characters. My favorite scene was the three of them hanging out watching a home made video of themselves and each of them were sitting in their own rocking chair. It would be fabulous if I one day had a room that didn't have a couch at all, just three different rocking chairs.
